Growing up deaf in a family of 8 siblings, Farah felt isolated and excluded. Despite her family’s best efforts, Farah was unable to communicate with them because they did not know how to communicate in sign language – the native language of a deaf child.
Farah’s life changed when she discovered Deaf Reach School and for the first time, Farah felt accepted. She understood her teachers albeit gradually, and her teachers understood her learning needs and requirements. Despite facing challenges due to her admission at an older age, and lagging behind her peers initially, Farah never gave up. She thrived in her new environment, excelling both academically and socially.
Today, she is a teacher trainee at Deaf Reach, inspiring and instructing young students and on her way to becoming financially independent.
